GenTown Update: Astronomy, Zoology, Onomatology!
Residents can now discover neighboring planets, moons, plants, animals, and more!
We are taking GenTown (our civilization simulator where you influence residents with prompts) to the next level, starting with this update that provides much of the framework needed for that goal.
Astronomy
You can now unlock Astronomy for your planet, allowing residents to discover planets from observations, and even moons with telescopes!
Planet names are hidden at first. When one is discovered, you are asked to name it. By default, they follow a naming convention based on the main star of your solar system.
Star names are actually based on real-life star names, with some added randomness. A lot of things will follow this convention going forward.
Species Rework
Plants and animals have been totally reworked, and come with their own unique traits.
Upon discovery, you can actually name them anything you want. If you aren’t feeling creative, random names can still be generated based on their traits.
You can even pick the collective noun for species (what a group of them is called).
There are more species per biome, and even aquatic plants and animals that can be discovered by coastal towns.
More!
Residents want more input from you, and in future updates, they’ll ask for a lot more!
Residents can ask you to name their planet’s star, and can also ask for diplomatic advice, helpful for inciting war.
We have big plans for GenTown going forward, including updates dedicated to cultures, individual historical and political figures, scientific advancements, wacky scenarios, and more.
Stick around and try creating a new planet now!
