October was a big month for R74n!
We released the Human Tier List and restarted our recaps, as talked about in previous articles, but we did even more afterwards…
Rue Street Ends
Our annual trick-or-treating event on Discord, Rue Street, ended on Halloween night.
It was a huge success! 11,825 messages were sent, which is DOUBLE last year’s, and many interesting behaviors emerged.
Players engaged in economic activity, not just with candies but RueCoins, which we started giving out 20-per to those interested.
There were casinos, currency conversions, a court system with lawyers, and restaurants with full menus! Many players even drew artwork for every candy they gave out.
Four. More. Pages.
Unexpectedly, R74n added four more silly pages to the main website. Let’s catch you up.
PHP2Shell – The Day the Internet went Dark
When a PHP exploit was revealed on 21 October, hundreds of vulnerable websites decided to shut themselves down as a precautionary measure.
We made a page to document all the maintenance pages shown in their place.
A few of our services also got shut down, namely the Sandboxels Wiki, R74n Wikibase, and the Discord in-game save browser for Sandboxels. There was no impact on us from the global exploit.
R74n Styleguide
We made a Styleguide, which documents our rules for writing going forward.
It includes the spellings of words, formats for dates, punctuation guidelines, grammar, capitalization, and more.
The page will continue to evolve as we write things for new projects.
Tracking URLs Page
Have you noticed social media platforms are adding junk to the end of your links when you go to share a post?
These are codes used to track who you share posts with. They connect you in a social graph, and some platforms even show your profile to those you send it to.
We made a page with every single app that uses these, as well as ways to spot and remove them.
Character Sheet
We’re looking to commission artists to make more designs of Sloppy, the narrator in our word game Wordslop.
For this reason, we created the Character Sheet, which only includes their information for now, but will soon include our other characters, like Rue.
New Discord emotes
Community members have created some new emotes based on Rue and our R74moji.
Near-future Plans
That was a lot. But we’re not done! This is our roadmap for the near future:
Focus more on updating Sandboxels, and polish older projects
Use Census data and the feedback forms to further improve the main website
Catch up on approvals for Sandboxels mods
A few more silly pages like October are planned
